Ngar-wu Wanyarra Aboriginal Health Conference

Ngar-wu Wanyarra Aboriginal Health Conference

The 3rd Annual Ngar-wu Wanyarra Aboriginal Health Conference was held at The University of Melbourne, Department of Rural Health, Shepparton on 11-12 October 2017.  Conference speakers included Professor Gracelyn Smallwood, Professor Megan Davis, Mr Jason Mifsud and Associate Professor Terry Dunbar who spoke on topics such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Constitutional Amendments and Government Policy.  Other leading researchers and health services staff shared Aboriginal methods and models of practice.  The conference was an opportunity to share and connect, to celebrate Aboriginal knowledge systems and to promote strength based approaches to improving the health outcomes of Aboriginal communities.  The conference concluded with a call for Aboriginal truth to be told.  Evaluations indicated that this time was valuable learning for those who attended.

The Department of Rural Health is hosting its Annual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Conference on 16 October 2018 in the Ballarat region.  Professor Kerry Arabena and other keynote speakers will share their knowledge of Aboriginal health in Aboriginal hands.  We will keep you informed as details about the program are finalised.  We hope to see you there!
