New National Collaboration to Advance Team-Based Medical Education

This research project aims to prepare medical students for collaborative, team-based care by strengthening their ability to learn from interprofessional interactions in clinical settings. As healthcare increasingly relies on collaboration, this work will help future professionals succeed in team environments.

The project brings together leading experts from four major institutions: the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, Griffith University, and the University of Adelaide.

Research leads include, Professor Stephen Billet (Griffith University), Associate Professor Christy Noble (University of Queensland) and Associate Professor Ellie Davies (University of Adelaide).

At the University of Melbourne, the team is led by Professor Walter Eppich, Dr Louise Allen, Associate Professor Leonie Griffiths, Dr Charlotte Denniston, Dr Will Harvey, and Associate Professor Vivienne Mak. Additional collaborators include Dr Lisa Gotley (UQ) and Adj Associate Professor Megan O’Shannessy (Griffith).

This interprofessional team will explore innovative educational strategies and practice-based learning to foster readiness for team-based care, shaping how medical programs in Australia—and potentially beyond—prepare students for collaborative clinical practice.
