"This award recognises my mentors, collaborators, and patients with whom I have had the privilege to work - and my family."

Associate Professor Perucca, who is Director of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program in Austin Health’s Department of Neurology, was noted for his work in the field of genetics and focal epilepsies, and in mentoring and supervising clinical and neuroscience trainees at all levels.

Associate Professor Perucca said he was deeply humbled to receive the award.

“This award recognises my mentors, collaborators, and patients with whom I have had the privilege to work – and my family,” Associate Professor Perucca said.

Named for two epileptologists who made outstanding contributions to the epilepsy field, the Dreifuss-Penry Award recognizes physicians in the early stages of their careers who have made an independent contribution to epilepsy research.

In 2021, Associate Professor Perucca received the Leonard Cox Award from the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists for his contribution to epilepsy diagnosis and management.
