Congratulations to Professor David Story, inaugurated as President of ANZCA
Professor David Story has commenced his term as President of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). The ceremony was held at the ANZCA 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting in Brisbane. This prestigious role is not only a testament to David's profound expertise and leadership in the field but also highlights his unwavering commitment to advancing medical practice, education, and research.
Professor Story is the Foundation Chair of Anaesthesia at the University of Melbourne and Head of the Department of Critical Care. He was first elected to the ANZCA Council in 2020 and is a former chair of the college’s Safety and Quality Committee. He was appointed vice-president in 2022.
Professor Story is a strong advocate for the emerging discipline of perioperative medicine with the aim of reducing perioperative risk and complications for patients. He has played a key role in the development of the new ANZCA Course in Perioperative Medicine and is recognised as a leader in research in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. His election as President of ANZCA completes a trifecta of roles that underscore his dedication and influence in our medical community - nationally and internationally.
