Dr Luke Perry awarded The Heart Foundation's Postgraduate Scholarship

Congratulations to Dr Luke Perry on receiving a Postgraduate Scholarship from the Heart Foundation for his PhD project titled "Pulmonary artery catheters in cardiac surgery (PUMA)”.

His thesis will centre around an international, multicentre, pilot and feasibility trial of pulmonary artery catheters versus central lines in low-risk cardiac surgery (the PUMA Pilot). He will also conduct numerous outcomes-based and mechanistic observational studies to characterise the role of pulmonary artery catheters in modern practice. Finally, he will develop the rationale and design for a definitive trial (PUMA II). PUMA has the potential to shape global perioperative management of cardiac surgery patients. Dr Perry wishes to thank his supervisors A/Prof Lachlan Miles, Prof Rinaldo Bellomo, and Prof Julian Smith for their support.
