Education Symposium: Supervising Medical Students in Acute Care Rotations
Hosted by the Departments of Anaesthesia, Pain and Perioperative Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Western Health
Supervising medical students in acute care settings presents unique challenges. This interactive faculty development symposium will focus on practical, evidence-informed strategies to help supervisors teach effectively in acute care environments such as ED, ICU and anaesthesia.
Participants will explore:
- What should be delivered during acute care rotations for students
- How to provide effective supervision and feedback
- How to create psychologically safe learning environments for students
- Coaching techniques during simulation.
Who should attend?
This symposium is designed for clinicians and educators who supervise University of Melbourne MD students during clinical rotations in:
- Emergency Medicine
- Critical Care (ICU)
- Anaesthesia
The symposium will be particularly relevant for consultants, senior registrars, and supervisors involved in teaching in high-acuity, time-pressured clinical environments.
