Abstract
Opioid medications such as fentanyl and morphine are frequently administered to patients in the intensive care unit to provide analgesia and assist with sedation (analgosedation). There are few data comparing the use of fentanyl and morphine for analgosedation, despite them being the most used agents world-wide for this purpose. The results of the cluster randomised, cluster crossover ANALGESIC trial comparing fentanyl and morphine for analgosedation will be presented. In addition, the results of a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial of ketamine to aid with analgosedation (the KALME trial) will be presented.
