PhD Completion Seminar - Patrick Tan
The Department of Critical Care welcomes you to join us for the following PhD Completion Seminar:
High flow nasal oxygen in pregnant women
Presenter: Dr Patrick Tan
Abstract
Pregnant patients have a higher oxygen demand compared to non-pregnant adults. Adverse changes to their respiratory physiology pose serious risks to them or their fetus. High flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) is a contemporary oxygen delivery system that supplies continuous oxygen and pressure. It is widely used in non-pregnant patients to reduce complications, but limited studies in pregnancy have hindered HFNO’s implementation into obstetric anaesthetic practice. This thesis describes novel clinical studies investigating HFNO in pregnancy. Studies explored obstetric patients undergoing simulated and actual general anaesthesia, patients with high body mass, patients in labour, and patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
