Prof Franz Babl and his team awarded the Elizabeth Molyneux Prize 2022

The Elizabeth Molyneux prize is named in honour of Professor Elizabeth Molyneux for recognition of outstanding work in the field of Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM).

This year's prize was awarded to Professor Franz Babl and his team at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) Annual Scientific Conference, for their paper titled, "Efficacy of Prednisolone for Bell Palsy in Children: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter Trial".

Professor Babl was also recently the recipient of an Investigator Grant from the NHMRC for 'Improving Emergency Department Identification and Care for Children with Sepsis'. Sepsis is a severe infection of major national concern due to its morbidity and mortality. Early identification and optimal management of children at risk of sepsis in emergency departments are yet to be determined. Professor Babl's program will develop methods to identify these children, expand our understanding of sepsis causes and identify the most efficacious intravenous fluid for management. The goal is to improve sepsis care for children by filling evidence gaps for national/international guidelines.

Congratulations to Professor Franz Babl and his team.
