Brief background and research interests

I am a GP with Masters in Clinical Education. I have a deep interest in family violence, trauma informed care, trauma informed medical education and medical education. I am an experienced educator, working with both post-graduate and undergraduate students as well as training hundreds of health professionals in family violence through Safer Families Pathway to Safety Program at The University of Melbourne.

Currently the Head of Curriculum at the Monash University Medical School, I also co-chair the WONCA special interest group for family violence, serve as the deputy chair of the RACGP specific interest group on family violence and continue to work as a clinical GP specialising in mental health, chronic disease management and working with survivors of family violence.

What led you to this research?
In my work as a clinician and academic I have come across so many GPs and other doctors who are survivors of domestic and family violence. Given how common it is for GPs to have patients who are survivors of family violence, I wondered how survivor GPs experienced working with these patients? Did it cause secondary re-traumatisation or were this group of GPs the ones who were doing more of the work in this space and going above and beyond for their patients?
