EASSI-PC – Helping GPs turn antimicrobial stewardship evidence into sustainable, real-world action in primary care

EASSI-PC (Evidence-based Antimicrobial Stewardship: Sustainable Implementation in Primary Care) is a national clinical trials activity led by Bond University, the University of Melbourne, Adelaide University and the University of Newcastle, with recruitment coordinated by the Department of General Practice, Primary Care Trials Unit.

We are inviting general practices across Victoria to take part in a practical, real-world study that supports appropriate antibiotic prescribing and reduces unnecessary use, while maintaining high-quality patient care.

Why EASSI-PC matters

Designed by GPs for GPs, EASSI-PC compares different, feasible strategies to optimise antibiotic prescribing in everyday practice. The findings will help shape future policies and programs in primary care - supporting efforts to:

  • Preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics
  • Reduce antimicrobial resistance
  • Provide the best possible care while minimising harm

Benefits for Participating Practices and GPs

  • One off practice payment of $1,000
  • A subscription to Therapeutic Guidelines (eTG) for participating GPs consented to the study – during the study intervention
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points for participating GPs, in line with RACGP requirements
  • Additional reimbursement for GPs who take part in qualitative interviews during the study

These incentives acknowledge your time, support, active involvement, and help make participation a valuable educational experience for GPs.
