Help us understand how Victorian GPs manage depression

Share your experience as a GP in a short survey and earn RACGP CPD hours.

With this project, we hope to gain insight from GPs into how they usually manage patients with depression, what sort of services they tend to refer to, how accessible these services are, and their own personal beliefs about depression as informed by their clinical experience. The questions we will ask are based on a similar study conducted in 2005 (as part of the diamond cohort study), and we plan to compare the responses we receive in 2026 to learn about how the landscape of mental healthcare in primary care has changed over time.

We would be deeply grateful for your participation in this study. The last studies undertaken regarding this topic took place in the early 2000s, so there is a need for data that reflects the vastly different environment that GPs face today. Your participation will contribute to a student project at the Melbourne Medical School. Findings will be presented to the broader medical school community, and we intend to publish these results so that they may inform future research and policy directions. Participants will also receive 1.5 RACGP approved (Activity ID: 1514779) CPD hours (0.5 hours Educational activities, 0.5 hours Reviewing performance, and 0.5 hours Monitoring outcomes) for their contribution to this project.

The survey is accessible at this link: https://redcap.link/gpsurvey

There is an option to ‘Save & Return Later’ on each page, so there is no need to complete the entire survey in one sitting. If any GPs in your network may be interested, please let them know!
