How does your gender and sexual identity impact your experience of miscarriage?
Miscarriage is a profoundly emotional experience, yet LGBTQIA+ individuals and partnerships often face additional barriers to support, including heteronormative healthcare, social exclusion and discrimination. This qualitative study is part of a Doctor of Medicine Research Scholar project and an Academic Registrar Research project, and will explore the experiences and support needs of LGBTQIA+ people following miscarriage. The study aims to identify gaps in care and opportunities for more inclusive healthcare practices. Findings will help inform the Miscarriage Australia website, an evidence-based website used by patients and relatives as well as GPs, reproductive health providers and policymakers.
Our team is looking to recruit participants, who:
- Identify as LGBTQIA+ (not heterosexual and/or cisgender or have variation in sex characteristics)
- Have experienced miscarriage themselves, as a partner or as part of a surrogacy arrangement
- Reside in Australia
- Are proficient in English
Potential participants are invited to contact Max at the Department of General Practice and Primary Care:
