Research Readiness Workshop Empowers GPs to Enhance Patient Care
In the ever-evolving primary care landscape, the ability to provide evidence-based, clinical care is essential for improving patient outcomes, enhancing satisfaction and maintaining sustainable practices. The latest RACGP workshop focused on helping practice owners and managers identify the key features of being ready to engage in research within the Australian context.
The workshop, held at the recent RACGP Practice Owners Conference 2025, guided attendees through the process of identifying research projects that could be easily conducted within their practices with minimal disruption. Participants explored how to productively engage with research teams, compared various research methods and received information regarding funding, training and support opportunities.
The workshop was led by a team from the TROPHI initiative – a unique collaboration between the RACGP, Monash University and The University of Melbourne that seeks to build research capacity at the clinical interface of primary care. Together with colleagues from practice-based research networks VicREN, MonREN and PARTNER, the TROPHI team highlighted the benefits of bringing research to life in everyday clinical practice. Attendees learned how to:
- Identify research projects that could be easily conducted within their practice with minimal disruption
- Productively engage with research teams
- Explore research methods
- Access funding, training and support opportunities
By identifying patient needs and leveraging their clinically unique understanding of co-morbidities, polypharmacy, social and family contexts, GPs and practice teams can contribute directly to the development of new knowledge and inform clinical decision-making.
