Trauma-Informed and Culturally Safe Maternity Care for Karen Women - A Doctoral Study
The Murdoch Children's Research Institute is currently conducting an important study that aims to improve maternity care for women of refugee background with a specific focus on the Karen community. As Australia welcomes an increasing number of families from refugee backgrounds, ensuring optimal care throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and hospital stay is crucial.
Researchers are seeking to recruit maternity care providers who have experience working with Karen women of refugee background since 2020 in the Western Region of Melbourne or Bendigo Greater Regions. Eligible participants need to have provided care to Karen women with the assistance of an interpreter.
Participation in this study involves a brief 30-minute phone interview , which can be scheduled at a convenient time. This research builds upon insights already gathered from Karen women and Karen-English interpreters, and aims to create a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in providing maternity care to this community.
By contributing to this study, maternity care providers have the opportunity to play a vital role in enhancing the care experience for Karen women of refugee background.
