How does health research co-design contribute to better intervention impact?

An evaluation being conducted by DGPPC researchers is exploring this question within a MRFF funded project led by the University of Queensland.

The Unspoken, Unheard, Unmet: Improving Access to Preventative Health Care through Better Conversations about Care project, led by Associate Professor Sarah Wallace of the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre, is co-designing and testing a multicomponent intervention to improve communication in aged care settings.

Dr Alicia King and Professor Victoria Palmer of the DGPPC are conducting a nested process evaluation of the Conversations about Care intervention development and implementation. The evaluation design is novel in that it is using an explanatory theoretical model of change for codesign to explore the influence of the co-design on intervention impact. The evaluation protocol was recently published in Health Expectations, an open access journal promoting critical thinking and informed debate about consumer and community involvement:
