RS4 Student Irfan Hossain wins award at MDSC 2026

One of our MD Discovery 4: Research Scholar (RS4) students, Irfan Hossian, was awarded first place for his GP, Population and Global Health 3MT presentation at the recent University of Melbourne MD Student Conference held June 22 – 25 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The MD Discovery Research Scholar pathway is a two-year elective program where medical students’ design an original medical research proposal in Year 3 and execute it as a full-time, semester-long research placement in Year 4. Students’ collect, analyse and interpret data and present their findings in the form of a journal article-style report, conference poster and oral presentation.

Irfan’s research project explored the experiences of GPs providing care for patients with depression. He examined previously unanalysed data from a GP survey administered as part of the diamond cohort study in 2005 and compared it to responses collected from GPs this year.

Iran was supervised by Dr Alison Flehr and Konstancja Densley.

Join us in congratulating Irfan on this amazing achievement!
