University of Melbourne the first in Australia to receive an Oak Foundation grant

Through the Safer Families Centre, Kelsey Hegarty is leading collaborative work on psychological violence and coercive control thanks to a philanthropic grant from the Oak Foundation. Several projects funded over two years are aimed at generating a deeper understanding of reproductive coercion and other forms of psychological abuse, links between different types of abuse (psychological, physical, sexual), the needs of women experiencing these types of violence and how health practitioners can identify and respond appropriately.  Oak Foundation has nearly a dozen programs through which they have made more than 4,000 grants to organisations worldwide however this is the first time Oak has provided funding in Australia.
