Dr Christine Longman has been awarded an OAM for outstanding achievement and service to medicine.

Dr Christine Longman OAM has been involved with our Department for many years, and was an early member of VicREN. A practice owner in Yarraville for many years, Christine has long delivered high quality care to many disadvantaged and marginalised patients with histories of addiction. She has delivered care in general practice as well as at the Western drug and alcohol service, and in the women’s prison.
Christine’s down-to-earth approach has made her an excellent teacher. Many generations of GPs are grateful for her sensitive and kind feedback after she observed their early consultations with patients as part of their GP training. She also offered her services over 10 years ago to help to educate non-medical students and researchers about how to encourage GPs to participate in research. For decades she has also educated other GPs on addiction medicine, and the research she conducted for her Master’s degree was borne out of her concern that there were not enough GPs who were prepared to undertake the management of addiction in the general practice setting.
The OAM is for outstanding achievement and service. Congratulations Christine!
