Meet our new GP Registrars

The Department welcomes five new GP Registrars for 2024

Rim Ghali

Rim Ghali is a second-year GP registrar, also undertaking the Australian Journal of General Practice Editorial Fellowship role. Her interests lie in Preventative Health and the use of e-health and data in improving disease prevention in primary care.

Research: Rim will be working with Dr Barbara Hunter and Dr Andrew Douglas. Her project is titled: Osteoporosis prevention in women at and after menopause; A qualitative analysis of current assessment strategies and intervention approaches by primary care providers.

Teaching: Rim will be assisting with the MD3 Mental health workshops and participating in the MD3 "Chat with a registrar" sessions.

Fun Fact: A busy mum of two youngsters, Rim enjoys family movie nights and outings to the park. She also finding new foodie experiences to try and exploring regional Victoria.

Janani Paramanantham

Janani Paramanantham is a second year GP registrar. Her interests lie in health technology for chronic disease detection, prevention and management as well as the use of big data for healthcare decision making.

Research: Janani will be working with Prof Dougie Boyle, A/Prof Jo-Anne Manski-Nankervis and Christine Chidgey. Her project is titled: Data Quality in General Practice EMRs – Is it sufficient for building Clinical Decision Support Tools for Type 2 Diabetes Risk?

Teaching: Janani will be assisting with the third-year medical student youth health workshops, first year medical student orientation workshops, written assessments and ‘chat with a GP registrar’ sessions.

Fun Fact: On the weekends you’ll find Janani pottering around a market, on a coastal walk or out for dinner and live music!

Jenni (Yenni) Ratten

Jenni (Yenni) Ratten is a second-year GP Registrar. Her interests lie in youth and adolescent health and how universities can promote health in young people.

Research: Jenni will be working with Lena Sanci’s team. Her project is titled: Access to primary health care in university student who engage in risky sexual behaviours.

Teaching: Rochelle will be assisting with the third-year Medical Student youth health, written assessments and ‘Chat with a GP Registrar’ sessions.

Fun fact: Jenni loves any craft that involves threads and needles.

Emily Thrower

Emily Thrower

Research: Emily will be working with Professor Meredith Temple-Smith and Associate Professor Ruth McNair. Her project is titled:  Care after Pregnancy Loss: How Can Same Sex Couples be Better Supported?

Teaching: Emily will be assisting with the first-year Medical Students and ‘Chat with a GP Registrar’ sessions

Fun fact: In her spare time, Emily enjoys rock climbing, yoga and hiking.

Amireh Fakhouri

Amireh Fakhouri is a final year GP Registrar with a passion for addressing health inequities. She is committed to serving marginalised communities by providing healthcare to refugees and asylum seekers in West Melbourne. She also collaborates with the Department of Health and Aged Care, focussing on policy reform within the Primary Care Access Branch.

Fun Fact: Amireh is a proud individual of Palestinian background, a devoted mother of two young children, and has also published a book titled " Health Inequity Experienced by Australian Paediatric Patients".
