Each fortnight during Term 1, we invite you to join us alongside a specialist as we discuss common issues presenting in young people. These sessions are held online and designed for clinicians, nurses, and educators.

  • Discuss common presentations to both developmental Paediatricians and school-based health clinicians.
  • Describe a common approach to community-based assessment and management adopted by developmental paediatricians, GPs and school-based nursing practitioners.
  • Discuss the unique role that clinicians in school-based health services can play in supporting young people and carers with diagnosed or undiagnosed developmental issues.
  • Evaluate best practice developmental paediatric principles and practices for potential use in primary care settings
  • Discuss key areas for collaboration, improved communication and service integration between primary care and tertiary community-based paediatric services.
  • Participate in a community of practice and peer learning.

  • Understand the role of brief interventions for YP with low to moderate mental ill-health in our setting.
  • Describe the different brief intervention modules in the Brief Intervention Toolkit.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to find and access Brief Intervention Toolkit activities and resources in a consultation.
  • Examine how to implement the toolkit using a case-based example through peer-led case discussion.

  • Understand the findings of the 2023 DiSS teaching and learning survey.
  • Describe the DiSS program in the broader context of primary care and specialist services.
  • Contrast and compare other clinicians’ experiences working in a remote/school environment vs mainstream GP.
  • Examine practice systems barriers and enablers to good practice, through peer-led discussion.
