Congratulations Amita!

Recent PhD Graduate, Dr Amita Tuteja receives 2025 RANZCOG Outstanding Contribution to Women’s Health Award

We are always proud of the achievements of our PhD graduates, and we are especially pleased to congratulate Dr Amita Tuteja on receiving the 2025 Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Award. Dr Tuteja received the news while working under challenging conditions in the flood-affected Taree Hospital, which was isolated and without power during the Northern Rivers floods.

The RANZCOG Award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to women's health. Dr Tuteja was honoured for her PhD research focused on developing culturally sensitive consent processes and creating a best practice resource for healthcare practitioners working with interpreters in refugee contexts.

Her work specifically addressed the needs of Burmese refugees in Australia, aiming to improve sexual and reproductive health care delivery. In doing so, she also established a broader framework applicable to other refugee communities experiencing similar healthcare challenges.
