NHMRC Partnership Project Grant Success

Led by Dr Jane Goller from the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, ‘An innovative digital solution to optimise STI/HIV care in general practice’ was recently awarded a NHMRC Partnership Projects 2024 grant. This collaborative project aims to address the dramatic increase in Sexually transmissible infections (STIs) over the past decade in Australia by using Clinical decision support tools embedded in general practice electronic medical records (EMR) to support GPs to provide timely testing and treatment of HIV and other STIs. The clinical decision support tool will be co-designed with GPs, nurses and health consumers to ensure its relevance to patient care in the general practice setting. It will remind GPs to test for STI/HIV, offer recommendations for appropriate prescriptions, provide clinical support with access to guidelines, and recommend patient resources - all of this in real time during the consultation.
