How do Young Australians View the Role of General Practitioners?
One of the early research projects to use Patron data wanted to know why young people visited their GP by examining adolescent health presentations in primary care among Victorian general practices. The study addressed a significant gap in our understanding of the role of general practice for young Australians and found that although physical problems continue to predominate among Australian adolescents’ reasons for visit to general practice, psychological presentations are occurring much more frequently than estimated in past studies. The study also demonstrated that deidentified data from general practice electronic medical records can be harnessed to provide a meaningful description of primary care activity.
