Innovations in the Doctor of Medicine course presented at ANZAHPE Perth 2025
Leading the way in general practice teaching – placements, scholarship and innovations in medical student teaching.

The Department of General Practice and Primary Care was present at the ANZAHPE annual conference in Perth to showcase how we are teaching general practice in the MD course. The ANZAHPE conference is one of the leading Asia-Pacific medical education conferences in the world.
Presentations included the innovative program that Dr Annelise Willems has developed in skin teaching and the role of dermatascopy. A/Prof Justin Tse presented on the role the Department played in ensuring GP placements and GP curriculum is present in all four years of the program. This includes: Year 1 placements, the MD 2 – Making Healthcare Work subject, core GP placements and workshop programs in MD3 and contributions to Clinical Scholar, Research Scholar and clinical placements.
Feedback was positive from colleagues in the MD teaching space. There was a strong University of Melbourne presence at the conference and we got a big shout out by Louisa Ng – final year subject coordinator for the contribution and support provided by the Department team for the final year subjects.
