Visitor from Singapore - Dr Wern Ee Tang

The Department welcomes visitor Dr Wern-Ee Tang, a Family Physician from the National Healthcare Group Polyclinics, Singapore. Sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Singapore, Dr Tang hopes to learn more about patient participation in healthcare, health services design and research.

Dr Tang is particularly interested in successful strategies that facilitate patient participation in healthcare delivery and research, and investigating strategies to improve health literacy in patients with chronic diseases. Her visit was organized by A/Prof John Furler and Prof Doris Young.

The National Healthcare Group Polyclinics (NHGP) is the primary care arm of the National Healthcare Group in Singapore. In addition to providing a comprehensive range of health services for the family and functioning as a one-stop health centre providing treatment for acute medical conditions, management of chronic diseases, women & child health services, the NHGP also plays an important role in the delivery of primary care training at medical undergraduate and post-graduate levels and in developing research capacity in primary care in Singapore. NHGP together with its partners, the Institution of Mental Health and LKCMedicine, was recently awarded a Centre Grant. The aim is to establish an internationally recognised research centre in primary health care research, to inform policy-makers, practitioners, program planners for improvement of the public’s health. Wern-Ee is a team lead in this Centre Grant application and both A/Prof John Furler and Prof Doris Young are key opinion leaders for the Centre Grant.

We look forward to further collaborations between the NHGP and the Department of General Practice!
