PhD Candidate Elizabeth McLindon was recently in the media talking about her paper, ‘“It happens to clinicians too”: An Australian prevalence study of intimate partner and family violence against health professionals’, co-authored with Professors Kelsey Hegarty and Cathy Humphreys (social work). Liz had an interview with 774 ABC radio’s Jon Faine, as well as SBS, Channel 9 and Channel 10 for their nightly news. Published in BMC Women’s Health, the paper is about the prevalence of intimate partner and family violence against doctors, nurses and allied health staff. It found that, in the 12 months, one in ten (11.5%) of the 471 (45.0% response rate) participating female health professionals reported violence by their partner, while over the course of their lifetime, 45.2% of participants had experienced violence by a partner and/or family member.
