September Student Symposium and Writing Retreat

Graduate research students get on the write track at the annual student symposium

DGP graduate research students held their annual Student Symposium and Writing Retreat at the University of Melbourne Creswick campus in September.

13 attendees wrote and talked their way through this feature event on the graduate research student calendar. Writing activities included pomodorro writing sprints and longer writing blocks, with students working productively on publications, presentations and the omnipresent thesis.

Peer led facilitated discussions were a very valuable part of the event, with vibrant discussions on topics including pitching presentations, finding funding, satisfying supervisors and taming theses.

All graduate research students are invited and encouraged to attend our regular weekly Shut Up And Write sessions and the next graduate student writing event in December.

Thanks to committee members Liz McLindon and Jono Kaufman for organising the event, which was supported by a Special Purpose Grant from the Graduate Students Association.
