Teaching and Learning: Student Placement Updates
Recruitment season is well underway for medical student placements in 2024. The Teaching & Learning team are busy arranging general practice placements for students across all four years of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course.
Each of our first-year and third-year students will undertake a clinical placement at a Victorian GP clinic as part of their core curriculum. Second-year and fourth-year students will have the opportunity to undertake general practice placements as part of specialised elective subjects.
2024 will be the third year of the longitudinal clinical placement program, where first-year MD students attend a general practice between March and October. The feedback so far has been incredibly positive with students appreciating the early exposure to “real world” provision of care, and the chance to build relationships with staff and patients.
We are expecting a large cohort of around 350 incoming first-year students, and it is our goal to provide high-quality learning experiences for each and every one. We hope that positive experiences on placement will encourage these future clinicians to consider careers in primary care. If you would like to host a student at your practice, please get in touch with us at gp-enquiries@unimelb.edu.au or (03) 8344 7275.
