Community Education Toolkit – Dementia Australia

Dementia Australia’s free, interactive video toolkit designed for community groups interested in learning about brain health and dementia.

Dementia is set to become the leading cause of death in Australia. Given there is no cure for dementia, prevention is a key strategy to reduce or at least delay the onset of dementia.

The vast majority of the general public and health care professionals still think that dementia is a part of “normal ageing”, which can contribute to delays in diagnosis. Dementia Australia have developed a Community Education Tool Kit. The kit, which is aimed at the general public, looks at practical tips to encourage people to keep their brain’s healthy, discusses what dementia is and how it is diagnosed, and also promotes strengthening communities and reducing stigma.

Dr Terence Chong and Dr Marita Long, both from The University of Melbourne participated in this project.
