Victim-survivors are partnering with teaching staff to better prepare University of Melbourne (UoM) health science students to respond to patients who have experienced violence, abuse and trauma.
Dr Katie Lamb, Senior Research Fellow in the Safer Families team was recently awarded a UoM Teaching and Learning Grant to develop survivor-led teaching of health science students to respond to patients experiencing violence, abuse and other trauma.
The project will focus on supporting students across the Faculty, including students from medicine, dentistry, nursing and social work to develop consistent understandings and practice of trauma and violence informed care. The program will be deeply informed by a group of victim-survivors from the University’s WEAVERs group, who will help develop the curriculum as well as co-deliver its experiential delivery.
