OUTcomes POST COVID: The OUTPOST study

As Australia emerges from the winter COVID and influenza season, infection rates remain high, and questions about the frequency and impact of ongoing post-viral symptoms persist.
Led by the University of Melbourne, Doherty Institute, Kirby Institute, and University of Adelaide, the OUTPOST Study is the only large-scale study of its kind investigating post-viral illness in Australia.
The OUTPOST Study is currently recruiting people experiencing flu-like symptoms and aims to understand how often persistent post-viral illnesses, such as fatigue and “brain fog,” occur and how they affect daily life.
Participants aged 12 years and over with COVID-19, influenza, or RSV are followed from acute infection, completing online surveys at 0 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year to track symptom progression and recovery. Eligible participants receive free Rapid Antigen Tests and $110 in vouchers.
