National Youth Mental Health Conference Key notes

Four of our academics presented at the National Youth Health Conference this year. Prof Lena Sanci presented the key note on the Victorian Doctor’s in Secondary School’s Program with two Year 10 Reservoir High School Students, Dr Bianca Forrester and Dr Roisin Bhamjee also presented on the Doctor’s in Secondary Schools program and Mr Tim Kariotis presented on the privacy concerns for teenagers holding a My Health Record.

Four of our academics presented at the National Youth Health Conference this year. Prof Lena Sanci presented the key note on the Victorian Doctor’s in Secondary School’s Program ‘From concept to implementation’ with two Year 10 Reservoir High School Students Kirsten Logronio and Jerelyn Temple who wowed the audience with their presentation on the impact of this program on themselves and whole of school. Dr Bianca Forrester presented on the factors determining successful establishment of a clinic within a school health and wellbeing program in the Doctor’s in Secondary Schools program and Dr Roisin Bhamjee, our Academic registrar performed her first oral conference presentation on her research about the perceptions of GPs working in the Doctor’s in secondary School Program. Mr Tim Kariotis, our PhD student and youth advocate, presented on the privacy concerns for teenagers holding a My Health Record.  Conference attendees were very interested in our Victorian Doctors in Secondary Schools program and the partnerships that have enabled the implementation to be achieved to date between the University Departments of General Practice, Paediatrics, and School of Graduate Education, all six Victorian PHNs, and the clinical services including the Royal Children’s Hospital, headspace, Family Planning Victoria, Orygen Centre for Excellence in Youth Mental Health, the Youth Support and Advocacy Service and Foundation House.
