THE HARMONY STUDY

The HARMONY study is a randomised controlled trial to prevent and reduce domestic violence among an at-risk group. GPs seeing south Asian refugee and migrant women are trained to identify, sensitively treat and refer these women to appropriate services.

The training is RACGP accredited and includes the services of a bilingual caseworker (from InTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence). Our privacy protecting GRHANITE® data extraction tool is used to help identify confirmed or suspected domestic violence patients and provide intervention analysis relating to domestic violence visits, safety plan discussions and referrals with respect to patient ethnicity and socio-economic positioning. This type of study has been shown to be effective in the UK where they are now in the process of rolling this program out to all GPs.
