Research Scholar

Research Scholar Pathway

Discovery 3: Research Scholar

This is the first subject dedicated to the Research Scholar pathway in the MD. This subject builds on the foundation level research methods knowledge and skills from prior studies in the MD.

Undertaken as a four-week intensive subject in the third year of the Discovery stream, students begin work on a research project of their choice under the supervision of an experienced researcher. This research project will be continued and completed in Discovery 4: Research Scholar subject.

Initially, students work closely with a supervisor and research team to develop a research question. During the following four week intensive period, they conduct a literature review and develop a detailed research project plan.

This subject is designed to help students to develop research skills tailored specifically to their project and prepare them to effectively carryout their research project in the following year. Students will work collaboratively with their supervisor and research group to establish professional working relationships as a clinician researcher.

Discovery 4: Research Scholar

Discovery 4: Research Scholar is a semester-long, full-time subject, where students continue to work with their supervisor and research team on the research project that was commenced in Discovery 3: Research Scholar.

In this subject students will collect, analyse and interpret data and present their findings in the form of a journal article-style report, conference poster and oral presentations.

This subject enables students to establish professional working relationships and develop their own professional identity as an early career clinician-researcher.

This subject is delivered in Semester 1 of the final year of the MD course.
