Session Type: Focus on Research
Title: Social media and their role as digital learning environments in HPE: Methodologies, meanings, and memes
Presenter: Dr Eleonora Leopardi, Lecturer in Clinical Education (University of Newcastle)
Overview: Social media platforms provide fertile ground for scholarly exploration, yet there are many challenges in conducting this research. In this session, Dr Leopardi will discuss the need for this research to be conducted, despite the significant challenges. She will present her learning and current reflections on selecting an appropriate qualitative methodology. This session is for you if you are interested in uncovering the meanings and dynamics of social media in HPE and how they are relevant to your day-to-day practice.

Title: A primer on participatory research for HPE
Presenters: Dr Julia Paxino, Prof Walter Eppich, Prof Robyn Woodward- Kron, Dr Charlotte Denniston (University of Melbourne)
Overview: This session will introduce participatory research methodologies in health professional education (HPE). We will explore how engaging community members as co-researchers can improve research relevance, inclusivity, and impact. The session will provide practical guidance on integrating participatory approaches, highlight challenges, and offer strategies to foster collaboration in diverse teams
