Title: Leading Change in Medical Education: The National University of Singapore Transformation Story
Presenter: DrDujeepa Samarasekara (NUS, Singapore)
Overview: This session examines key principles of learning and assessment design reform, highlighting strategic alignment, innovation and faculty development. It explores Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore’s strengths and contextual challenges, illustrating how these informed and shaped transformative, sustainable curricular and institutional change.

Title: HPE Selection in 2026: Current Practices, Outcomes & Future Directions.

Overview:  
This session brings together three expert voices—Jo Bishop (Bond University), Tanmay Bagade (University of Newcastle) and Lyndal Parker‑Newlyn (University of Wollongong)—as they unpack their distinct approaches to selecting future medical students. From psychological aptitude testing to Multiple Skills & Personal Qualities Assessments, to the use of SJTs and portfolios, each speaker will share the research, rationale, benefits and challenges shaping their institution’s model and we will engage in a discussion with attendees about where to next for selection?

Session Type: Scholarship Focus Roundtable
Title: Coaching to Support Self-Regulated Learning
Presenter: Dr Svetlana King (Flinders University)
Overview: Academic coaching is a pedagogical approach designed to provide ongoing support for learners to develop SRL. This workshop draws on experiences of implementing academic coaching in two medical programs in Australia and the UK. It explores academic coaching principles that can support learners to longitudinally monitor their progress and development, building expertise in self-regulated learning and reflective practice. The session will include the opportunity to discuss ways in which academic coaching principles could be applied to participants’ local contexts.

Title: Service Learning for Combating Public Health Issues, Building Socially Responsible Health Professionals and Sustainable Community Engagement in Pakistan
Presenter: Rukhsana (National University of Medical Sciences)
Overview: This presentation explores the pedagogical approach, public health outcomes, and practical strategies for integrating impactful service-learning into health professions curricula. It will share insights from a seven-year service-learning programme that mobilised over 100 health professions students across fifteen institutions to address iron deficiency anaemia in underserved Pakistani communities through screening, education, and clinical management, achieving significant improvements in women's knowledge and haemoglobin levels.

Overview: In this session you’ll have the opportunity to hear from several of the DME Master of Clinical Education students about their research, derived from on-the-ground questions about why and how (and if) things work in health professions education.

Thursday 21 May (1-2pm)

Session Type: Research Training Focus Roundtable
Title: Cross cultural collaborations in research (a guide)
Presenters: A/Prof. Anita Horvath (Department of Medical Education)
Overview: Research programs are enhanced by incorporating cross cultural collaborations to ensure that research addresses not only the academic enquiry but also promotes equity, capacity building and mutual benefits. This session will explore both the challenges and opportunities that cross collaboration brings for shared learning, research relevance and equitable partnerships through insights gained in the establishment of the PRIME Health project in Indonesia.

Title: Health Professions Education (HPE) PhD Works in Progress

Overview: This session provides DME and other HPE candidates in the Faculty the opportunity to gain experiences talking about their research in a concise way, and to discuss, troubleshoot and gain insights from the audience discussion.
