Thursday 6 March (1-2pm)

Session Type: Research and Scholarship Roundtable - Focus on Research
Title: Integrating digital technologies into teaching embodied knowledge in the context of physical examination
Presenter: Dr Jess Lees, Department of Physiotherapy, University of Melbourne
Overview: There is a growing presence of digital technologies in clinical learning environments. However, there is little research into how technologies shape embodied teaching and learning for health professional students. This presentation will share findings from a study that used a thinking with theory approach to explore current teaching practices of physical examination across four health disciplines and to understand how digital technologies are used to facilitate the development of bodily knowledge.

Thursday 13 March (1-2pm)

Session Type: Research and Scholarship Roundtable - Focus on Scholarship
Presenter: Dr Morgan Rayner, The University of Melbourne
Overview: This presentation explores attendance monitoring methods in healthcare degrees, focusing on the tension between adult learning and course requirements. It discusses various monitoring techniques, including RFID, QR codes, and smartphone systems, along with ethical concerns such as trust and data privacy. Morgan will also explore how online participation data can help identify and support at-risk medical students early and discuss the potential of this approach in medical education.

Thursday 27 March (1-2pm)

Session Type: Research and Scholarship Roundtable - Focus on Research Training
Title: Tools for navigating research authorship and acknowledging contributions
Presenter: Prof Robyn Woodward-Kron, The University of Melbourne
Overview: This research training session is about research integrity. It addresses the sometimes sticky business of navigating who should be an author, who should be an acknowledgment, and in what order authors should appear. Drawing on university guidelines and templates for navigating authorship and contributions, the session provides practical resources and strategies for research students, research project and academic supervisors.

Thursday 3 April (1-2pm)

Session Type: Research and Scholarship Roundtable - Focus on Research
Title: “We need a seismic shift”: Visualising the assemblage of disability inclusion through U.S. disabled medical students’ perspectives
Presenter: Dr Neera Jain, Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education, University of Auckland
Overview: This session will share a reflexive thematic analysis of disabled medical student responses to US survey. The analysis identifies key dimensions of medical school systems that affected student experiences, and the actions students took in response, positioning them as an assemblage. Highlighting the political-relational production of disability, Dr. Jain will discuss the need for systemic shifts within medical education that follow.
