Welcome to the Department of Medicine, the oldest and one of the largest centres of medical research within the Melbourne Medical School. With over 200 staff and 500 honorary members across five key sites, we lead impactful research and education that spans bench to bedside. Our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and improving patient outcomes continues to drive excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching. We’re proud to be shaping the future of medicine.

The Department of Medicine offers outstanding learning opportunities across multiple sites, supported by world-class researchers, clinician-educators, and teaching facilities. We deliver core clinical training in internal medicine to MD students and provide exceptional supervision for Honours, Master of Biomedical Science, and PhD candidates pursuing research across a wide range of medical specialties.
Our department also offers short courses and professional development options tailored to emerging and established healthcare professionals. With consistently high teaching evaluations, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders in medicine, research, and clinical practice.
