NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship

Congratulation to Dr Debjyoti Karmakar who was awarded the NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship.

Dr Debjyoti Karmakar research focuses on enhancing women's health and perinatal care, especially for high-risk groups. He is working on implementing a compact and non-invasive fetal heart monitoring device developed by our research group. This device is a significant breakthrough for high-risk pregnancies, offering continuous and precise monitoring while eliminating the discomfort of frequent repositioning. What sets this research apart is the exploration and seamless integration of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, ensuring unparalleled accuracy in capturing fetal heart rate data. Additionally, I'm exploring its potential to identify uterine signatures, a development that could greatly enhance our ability to predict preterm births.

Furthermore, utilizing AI to improve the prediction of perinatal asphyxia. His goal is to develop advanced deep learning algorithms that can analyze fetal heart monitoring tracings with precision surpassing current computational decision support methods for clinicians.

Additionally, he is actively investigating novel AI techniques to enhance the diagnosis of endometriosis through medical imaging. This research has the potential to reduce diagnostic delays and improve the quality of life for those affected by this condition, which carries a significant burden in Australia and worldwide.

Please join us in congratulating Dr Debjyoti Karmakar for this achievement.
