Northern Health Research Week

Northern Health Research week concluded on the 27th of October at the Northen Centre for Health Education and Research (NCHER). The Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health was well represented during this event. A/Prof Lisa Hui showcased the development of the Reproductive Health Biobank and the partnership of NCHER with The University of Melbourne. Two of our researchers, Dr Ishara Atukorala and Dr Natasha de Alwis presented their work in the best abstracts session. At the end of a great medley of research presentations, Natasha won the third place for best oral presentations, while Ishara won the first-ever Peter Brooks Award (first place), for her presentation on, ‘First trimester placental exposure to novel CMV antiviral drugs: a toxicity study’. Last but not least, research midwife Eleanor Johnson presented her remarkable work in abortion care, gaining many accolades.
