PhD Scholarship Opportunity - ESE-CMV study: Education, Serology, and Evaluation to prevent congenital cytomegalovirus infection

About the Project
The ESE-CMV study based in the Dept of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Mercy Hospital for Women, is seeking a talented student to undertake a PhD in the area of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) prevention. The ESE-CMV study has a full-time PhD stipend (including clinical loading) for an appropriately qualified student to commence research in mid 2022. The PhD student will be supported by an expert team to achieve the following research objectives:
- To develop and evaluate an eLearning module on perinatal infections for shared care GPs
- To pilot first trimester CMV serological screening at the Mercy Hospital for Women, Melbourne
- To evaluate Australian consumer and clinician perspectives on CMV screening
- To document the lived experience of women with a suspected cCMV in pregnancy
Scholarship Benefits
A PhD stipend in line with the NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship rates for 2022 is provided.
- $36,863 p.a. for nursing, midwifery and allied health graduates
- $42,584 p.a. for medical graduate
Supervision
The successful applicant will be supervised by:
- Associate Professor Lisa Hui Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The student will join the ESE-CMV study Unit based at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Melbourne and will work at the Mercy Hospital for Women based in Heidelberg
Eligibility
Applicants should have:
- Masters or Honours degree in the health science area including: Nursing/midwifery, Medicine, Epidemiology, Public Health, or related discipline
- Clinical experience in maternity care
- Strong interests in both quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated computer skills, including spreadsheets, database programs, statistics and word processing
- Prior experience in clinical research using patient-reported outcome measures will be highly regarded.
Conditions of employment
- Working with Children & National Police Clearance (if appointed) in compliance with the Victorian Governments Child Safety Standards
- All occupational health and safety requirements for an honorary research position at Mercy Health, including relevant vaccination history
- The right to reside and work in Australia
- This position is based at The Mercy Hospital for Women with flexibility to work from home as necessary, however regular attendance on campus is non-negotiable. Due to COVID-19, other work and travel arrangements may be in place that you will be required to adhere to.
