Thesis Title: Dissecting the humoral immune response to reduced-dose human papillomavirus vaccination

Thesis Summary:

The humoral immune response is driven by antibodies and B cells, which are thought to play an important role in immunity and maintenance of protection from cervical cancer caused by human papillomaviruses (HPV). This thesis examined the immune response following 1 dose of HPV vaccine in a cohort of adolescent girls in Fiji that received 0, 1, 2 or 3 doses previously. In this thesis, a systems serology approach was developed to characterise the antibody response induced by HPV vaccination. Immune memory responses were also assessed using a B cell ELISpot method along with transcriptomics. The findings of this thesis support current recommendations for a 1-dose HPV vaccine schedule for adolescents.
