Thesis Title: Quantifying oedema in children in intensive care
Thesis Summary: Knowledge regarding the pathophysiology of oedema has advanced considerably however, techniques for quantifying it in critically ill children remain subjective and imprecise. This is important because managing oedema is important to clinicians and may affect organ function. In a study of sixty-one mechanically ventilated children with congenital heart disease in intensive care, a clinical oedema score, mid-limb circumferences and 3D imaging of the face were investigated for their precision, validity and their association with vital organ oedema and organ dysfunction.
