Thesis Title: The Role of Maternal Serum Biomarkers in the Aetiology of Cerebral Palsy

Thesis Summary: Biomarkers measured in prenatal screening are involved in placental development and have been associated with adverse outcomes known to increase CP risk.Children with CP were linked with their mother's prenatal biomarker results.CP cases were associated with low biomarker levels in the first trimester and high biomarker levels in the second trimester. Placenta-mediated complications that increase the risk of CP were more likely to be associated with abnormal biomarker levels.Better understanding of antenatal CP etiology will assist future intervention and prevention.
