Thesis Title: Involvement of TRPV4 genetic mutations in regulation of intracellular calcium level and bone and cartilage abnormalities

Thesis Summary: This thesis aimed to investigate the role of TRPV4 genetic mutations on the calcium metabolism and their association with bone and cartilage abnormalities using different models of Scottish fold cats, mouse, mouse chondrocytes, and HEK293 cells. p.V342F mutation in TRPV4 was the underlying cause of the Scottish fold cat phenotype. TRPV4 620A mutation was associated with bone abnormalities in mice. TRPV4 620A mutation in chondrocytes and HEK cells was associated with an impaired calcium responses to different stimulations.
