Prime Minister's New Innovator's Prize - Winner

The Rural Clinical School would like to congratulate 2009 alumni Dr Luke Campbell, who won the Prime Minister’s New Innovator’s Prize recently in Canberra.  The award was given for his innovation of headphones that automatically “fit” to an individual’s hearing, marketed by his company, Nura.

Luke did PhD research in Otolaryngology in intraoperative surgical monitoring for cochlear implantation (work which led to patents pending with Cochlear).  During his PhD candidature Luke decided that he’d like to become an entrepreneur and in 2016 was an awardee of the Melbourne Accelerator Program for the early development of his headphones.

Business imperatives meant that Luke’s PhD was not completed until this year, and he is expected to graduate late in 2019.
