Professor Jane Tomnay Honoured with Order of Australia for Contributions to Sexual Health

We are delighted to announce that Professor Jane Tomnay has been named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the King's Birthday Honours list. This prestigious award recognises Jane's outstanding contributions to sexual health, including her work with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since 2009, Jane has been the Director of the Centre for Excellence in Rural Sexual Health (CERSH) at the University of Melbourne, where she has led the development of rural health programs.

Jane trained as a Registered Nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and holds a Master of Health Science and a PhD in Public Health. She has worked internationally, contributing to the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global HIV testing guidelines and consulting on HIV partner services in the WHO Southeast Asia and Pacific region. Jane also served as President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (2008-2011) and the Sexual Health Society of Victoria (2017-2020).

On receiving the award, Jane said, “I’m deeply honoured to receive this award and want to pay tribute to all of the colleagues I’ve worked with throughout my career. The professional relationships I’ve been fortunate to experience over many years are the greatest reward of all.”

This recognition celebrates not only Jane's achievements but also the important work of the entire CERSH team, whose efforts continue to make a significant impact in the field of sexual health.
