Rural Clinical School in Echuca Launch

On Monday 3 February,  the University of Melbourne's Department of Rural Health launched their new Rural Clinical School in Echuca!

This year, 11 students consisting of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students will be studying their Doctor of Medicine in Echuca, with clinical training taking place at Echuca Regional Health.

The proceedings began with a Welcome to Country from Uncle Des Morgan and opening speeches from Professor Julian Wright and Annemarie Newth.

This year, for the first time, the Department has a Deputy Director of Medical Student Education in Echuca and is bringing year two students to Echuca, completing their clinical and practical components at Echuca Regional Health and the UoM Education Hub.

The expansion marks another step forward in addressing rural workforce challenges, with research showing medical students who train in rural areas are more likely to practice rurally after graduation.
