UniMoo arrives at Shepparton campus
Greater Shepparton City Council and the University of Melbourne Department of Rural Health, in collaboration with local artist Eric Brown, have designed the newest addition of the Moooving Art Herd, 'UniMoo'.

'UniMoo' is the latest addition to the iconic Shepparton Mooovin Art Herd and is pictured here with the Specialist Certificate in Empowering Health in Aboriginal Communities students and artist, Eric Brown.
Moooving Art is an iconic part of the Shepparton & Goulburn Valley landscape. It is an ever-changing public art exhibition using a unique canvas – 3D life sized cows. Each member of the herd is created by local artists to celebrate our culturally diverse and inspiring region.
'UniMoo' is has found her new home in Shepparton and is painted in the University of Melbourne colours, with the design representing the four main campuses of the university that the Department works within: Parkville, Shepparton, Wangaratta and Ballarat. The campuses are connected by groups within the community which the Department are involved in. The final touch to the design is the healing hands of the students.
Deputy Head of the Department of Rural Health, Geetha Ranmuthugala says; “UniMoo is a welcomed addition to our Shepparton campus. We’re proud to offer regional-based teaching and a range of services to support our local rural community in bridging healthcare gaps. Joining the Moooving cow family and having our connections to our rural partners and communities, depicted in a fun way through the cow, has been great to see”.

Work in progress: Eric Brown invited students from the Department of Rural Health to contribute hand prints on the cow which represents 'healing' in First Nations culture.

Local artist, Eric Brown, is a Yorta-Yorta based Kamilaroi artist and friend of the Department of Rural Health who's works also feature throughout the building. Here he is pictured with second-year medical students who helped contribute handprints on the cow.
This is not the first time Eric Brown has created artwork for the University of Melbourne. A walk through the foyer at the Department of Rural Health reveals many other artworks by Eric existing among other artists’ work.
This is the first addition to the Moooving Art Herd in 2024, with many new designs in the works for the upcoming year. UniMoo is located at the front of the Department of Rural Health at 49 Graham Street, Shepparton. UniMoo was able to greet students from Friday 26 January 2024, prior to the students arriving to commence their study for the year.
